Keep your server running smoothly
In order for your Appbox to always operate fast and smooth, it is important to take some steps to configure some settings on the Dashboard, as well as keeping up with some maintenance tasks on your appbox, at plex.tv
Making sure your appbox restarts daily
One of the cool features here, is the ability to schedule your server to automatically restart daily
Navigate to server settings and make sure to schedule your server for daily restarts
Important steps to take regularly
Plex allows you to run some maintenance tasks via plex.tv web panel that'll help keep your server snappy
you should run these weekly or bi-weekly
My Plex server says an update is available
I have a shared Appbox
Head over to your Dashboard - Scroll down and hit "Restart" on your server
I have a Baremetal
Head over to your Dashboard - Scroll down and hit "Restart" on your server
I think my server is down / Unable to access it on plex.tv
- Head over to your Dashboard
- Is the server showing as online? If not, restart it
- Does it say "plex service running"? If not, restart it
- Does it say "Unclaimed server"? If so, claim it.
- All above looks fine?
- Click "Unclaim Plex Server" and re-claim it again
- Click "Reset plex config" and re-claim the server
- Still not working?
- Restart the server AFTER claiming it
- Check the following guide HERE
- Still not coming back up? Please get in touch by creating a ticket
I'm curious how subtitles work
Subzero and Bazarr!
We run sub-zero/Bazarr to automatically grab subtitles in a large variety of languages, sub-zero/Bazarr matches the download subtitle with the filename and attempts to find a proper matching subtitle.
What if Subzero/Bazarr fails?
More often then not, the subtitle will be out of sync, therefore we have set a few rules regarding subtitles:
- We do not officially support subtitles
- If they are not in sync, then we often cant do much about it, use kodi to correct them
- You are free to contact us and tells us the EXACT amount of seconds the subtitle is delayed or ahead by, the language of the subtitle and the exact movie and episode, then we might resolve it manually if and when we have time
- We do not guarantee subtitle corrections or support, theres literally tenths of thousands of subs, it is not realistic for us to correct all subtitles on request.
I'm curious what transcoding means
Transcoding
If you play video via Plex or Emby and reduce the streaming quality to anything lower then its original quality, or if you add subtitles - Then the video will transcode during playback.
Direct Play
If you stream at original (highest) quality, you will be direct playing.
Indirect/Insecure/unable to connect to your server
Recently, a bug sometimes prevents a plex server from being successfully claimed via the dashboard.
When this happens, after claiming via the dashboard and going to https://app.plex.tv/desktop - The server may appear as insecure, indicated by a yellow (!) or by a message, as the below image
This can be resolved by doing a couple of manual steps using a web browser.
1. Go to https://dash.tixehosting.comand login, note down the Plex server IP and the Plex Server port
2. Open a new tab in your web browser, and the Plex Server IP and a : and then the Plex server port, check below image for example
3. Plex will load, and it might ask you to login - Login using the same account that you just used to claim the server with on https://dash.tixehosting.com
4. Next, click "More"
5. Notice that you can now see the server on the left hand side, at the top right - Click the settings icon, indicated by a tool
6. Next, find the "remote access" settings pane, on the left hand side and click it
7. Tick the "Manually specify public port" and populate the white box with the Plex Server Port that you noted down from your https://dash.tixehosting.compage, at the beginning of this guide - Then, click "retry"
8. Sometimes, the bottom part will gray out, and a "Enable remote access" button will appear as indicated by the image below - Click "Enable remote access" if this happens
8. After which, the server should successfully connect and turn green
Thats it! The server is now fully connectable via any plex app and https://plex.tv/desktop
Correcting appbox library after significant library changes
Sometimes, tho very rarely, there might be significant library changes at Tixe, like thousands of movies disappearing or being replaced.
When your appbox scans huge changes like this, you may see inconsistencies in your library, slow scan times and some content being unavailable.
This article will cover the exact steps to take when scanning your appbox after these changes, to allow the fastest, smoothest and most accurate update of your appbox library.
1. Restart your appbox via your server dashboard.
2. Go to https://plex.tv find your server in the menu on the left hand side
4. On the left hand side of the server settings, scroll down and locate "troubleshooting"
5. Click "Optimize DB" and "Clean bundles"
6. Top left hand corner, click the "plex" logo to go back to your home screen, navigate to the server again.
7. For EACH library, empty trash
8. Initiate a new scan
9. Let the scan run. Check the status of the scan every few hours by navigating to the server settings again(refer to step 2 and 3) click "Alerts"
10. Check the "Alerts" page for scan updates. Whenever you begin to see 10-20 minutes between EACH UPDATE in this panel, repeat this guide from step 1.
